Torquay Beaches

Torquay Beach

Victoria, Great Ocean Road

Front Beach or Cosy Corner as it's known is a sheltered, super safe and very popular swimming spot for families right in the heart of the surf town of Torquay. The waves are tiny on all but the biggest of swells that normally wrap around the point here during the cooler months. To the west of town is the more consistent and more popular surfing spot of Surf Beach where good waves for beginner surfers can be found on small wave days.

Wave Type
The rides at Front Beach are short and best really for kids and absolute beginners wanting to catch tiny waves straight to the beach. This is also a good spot for beginner surfers to check when looking for shelter from big south west swells and strong west winds.

The more exposed Surf Beach offers bigger waves that break over a broader sandbar and is ideal for catching both whitewater or green waves and turning - watch out for rips and remember to practise surfing etiquette as this spot does get busy at times.

Good Wind Direction
Best on South West to North West winds.

Good Swell Direction For Fun Beginner Waves
Big West to South West swells, and small South to South East swells.

Hazards
- Rocks
- Rip Currents
- Marine Life

Have fun surfing Torquay by practising surfing etiquette and surf safety.
