Surf Beach - Port Denison
Western Australia, Coral Coast
Surf Beach (also known as Arurine Bay) is a good option for beginners at what is normally a safe beach break with small waves. This spot also offers shelter from south winds in the southern corner of the beach. The more swell exposed South Beach can also be fun for surfing on small wave days.
Wave Type
Short rights and lefts break close to shore along the beach, ideal for starting out catching small green waves and practising turning. The sandbar isn't that broad here, so catching whitewater waves and standing up before you arrive on the shore can be tricky due to the short length of ride.
If the surf is flat here, check out South Beach (yes, to the south of town) for bigger waves that break over a super broad sandbar that is good for catching long whitewater waves. Watch out for rips at both Surf Beach and particularly at South Beach, which does get dangerous with strong rips during big swells.
Good Wind Direction
Best on South to North East winds.
Good Swell Direction For Fun Beginner Waves
Surf Beach is best on moderate South swells, and small West to North swells.
