Long Beach - Robe
South Australia, Limestone Coast
The first good surf spot for beginner surfers east of the Adelaide / Fleurieu Peninsula region, Robe is a busy coastal town in summer when Adelaide and country South Oz residents migrate here to escape the heat by swimming, surfing and fishing in the turquoise blue waters of this laid back Limestone Coast town. Here you'll find excellent shelter from big south and moderate west swells. There is a string of small beaches in town that are great for swimming with bigger and more consistent waves for surfing to be found heading north along the length of Long Beach where driving on the sand is also permitted.
Wave Type
Close out waves break along the wide, straight sandbar at the southern end of the beach. This makes surf conditions safe and easy for practising catching whitewater waves or green waves when the surf is small - stick to higher tides when attempting to catch green waves to minimize the risk of nose dives.
Bigger waves with better shape for turning across the wave face can be found to the north up the beach, so find a spot free from rip currents that is free from crowds and enjoy. During north winds, Beachport down the coast will have smoother surfing conditions.
Good Wind Direction
Best on South to East winds.
