Crescent Head Point
New South Wales, Mid North Coast
One of the best longboarding waves in Australia, the point is home to very long waves that peel gently down the length of the boulder strewn bay offering rides of hundreds of metres. It's legendary status and long time popularity brings massive crowds, especially during holiday times.
Please practise surfing etiquette to help maintain the positive vibe in the line up, and be sure that you can confidently catch green waves, turn and surf along the wall of waves and between other surfers with control and also display sound surfing etiquette - otherwise you'll end up on the rocks or running someone over, which isn't fun for anyone. Beginner surfers who are yet to possess the surfing skills and knowledge to surf with control and etiquette, will find that surfing the beach break at Crescent Head an easier and safer option.
Super long rights breaking over sand and boulders with the first section and the last section close to the beach normally offering the steepest walls and fastest rides. When crowded, stick to the end section or beach break where the waves are often just as fun with fewer crowds.
If you are just starting out with surfing, stick to the safer beach break just to the north and head to the more sheltered Trial Bay at South West Rocks if the waves are too big here.
Good Wind Direction
Best on South East to North West winds.
Good Swell Direction For Fun Beginner Waves
Small to medium North to East swells to big South Swells.
- Rip currents at the end section
- Jelly legs
- Marine life
