Ocean Grove to Torquay
Western ends of Torquay Beaches & Raffs Beach at Barwon Heads are best for shelter from South to large South Westerly swells and on North to Westerly winds with marginal shelter from South Westerly winds.
Open beaches like Ocean Grove Beach are best on smaller swells & Northerly winds.
Anglesea to Apollo Bay
Open beaches are best on small swells along with Northerly winds & best avoided on larger swells.
Warrnambool to Cape Bridgewater
Western ends of Warrnambool Beach, East Beach Port Fairy & Bridgewater Bay are best for shelter from mid sized Southerly to larger Westerly swells and on North to Westerly winds with marginal shelter from South Westerly winds.
Open beaches are normally best avoided apart from on very small swells & Northerly winds.
Note that beaches West of Cape Otway receive very large swells, rapidly changing surf conditions & at times potentially dangerous surf conditions, so stick to the sheltered spots above for a safer surfing experience.
Remember, catching green (unbroken) waves is often easier on mid to high tides (less nosedives) or if the waves are too big or challenging, surf whitewater waves close to shore, which is often best on mid to low tides in waist deep water.
